18 January 2010
I am delighted to congratulate you and your school on the excellent performance you have demonstrated at Key Stage 4 in the 2009 Achievement and Attainment Tables published today. The results for your school show that you are amongst the top performing schools this year based on sustained improvement in 5+ A*-C GCSEs (and equivalent) including English and mathematics GCSEs. Nationally, schools have made great strides since 1997. Secondary school standards have never been higher with 2009 results showing the biggest ever annual jump in the percentage of pupils getting five or more good GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and maths. Good qualifications are one of the keys to a young person's success in life and more young people than ever are achieving the benchmark five higher level GCSEs, including English and maths and are able to move successfully to further education, training or work. The long-term trend is one of sustained improvement and the continued improvement in results is testament to the dedication of our teachers and hard work of pupils Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to your pupils, staff and governors for their hard work and success, and I send my best wishes for continued improvement in the year ahead. I am sending a copy of this letter to your local Member of Parliament.
